PCN Profiles, Rafe and Clelia Stefanini, Old Time Musicians
(VIDEO) Rafe and Clelia Stefanini are both Old Time Musicians, known for their work on the fiddle, banjo, and guitar. Rafe Stefanini has been at the forefront of the revival of traditional music from the rural south for over thirty years. His work is represented in over 20 CDs, both as a headliner and as a guest. He has been a member of such influential bands as the Wildcats, Big Hoedown, The Rockinghams, and most recently, Jumpsteady Boys (with Bruce Molsky, Joe Newberry and Mike Compton). Clelia Stefanini has followed in his footsteps. Together they present a varied and exciting program of fiddle duets, banjo tunes, songs and ballads. Their CD’s “Never Seen the Like…” and “Lady on the Green” are already considered classics in the genre.
PCN Profiles Kyle Holbrook, Moving the Lives of Kids Community Mural Project, Founder and Executive Artist
(VIDEO) Kyle Holbrook is the founder and executive artist for the Moving the Lives of Kids (MLK) Community Mural Project. The charitable organization was founded in 2002, to use public art as a way to reach kids over the summer months to do positive community work when they’re not in school. Today, as many as 6,000 youth and professional artists have participated. MLK’s first mural was in Wilkinsburg, PA on Penn Ave., in the heart of the community where Holbrook grew up. The project has created over 156 murals and opportunities, employing youth at $1,200 per student. Some of the larger projects include “The History of Baseball in Pittsburgh”, “Martin Luther King, Jr. East Busway Community Murals Project”, and an upcoming mural working with children from Palestine and Israel to create a mural about peace.
