Angelo Ciotti is an Environmental Reclamation Artist from the Pittsburgh area. Ciotti was always fascinated by the abandoned coal mines that dotted the area he lived in. They served as an inspiration to his imagination.
He began working on reclaiming mines in 1972, with the main concern being on coal-rich PA to address problems of abandoned surface mines and solve them in a functional way at a minimal cost.
Functional earth-works have been accomplished in cooperation with the soil conservation services, forestry's, youth services, sportsmen's clubs, and other interested citizens. He's also worked successfully with the PA Department of Environmental Protection and PennDOT.
Ciotti says that he is concerned about the relationship of humanity with Earth. He hopes to bring wildlife habitats back into their scarred area, and provide food sources for a variety of species through the selection of suitable kinds of vegetation to give food and cover for deer, birds, etc.
