Description
Grove City Borough is located in the heart of Western Pennsylvania, an hour North of Pittsburgh, and an hour South of Erie. The borough is full of pride for its community, which is evident in the resources and activities it offers community members.
The Grove City Borough council has created a stable environment for the community to grow. A Junior Council Program provides opportunities for high school students to contribute their point of view on topics discussed in council meetings.
Education is important in Grove City, their public schools partner with Grove City College, and George Junior Republic School to give students at each institution a well-rounded education. The sculptures scattered throughout their downtown were designed and built by George Junior students. They help visitors find parking in the bustling downtown area, with shops, restaurants, and beautiful murals, it’s a perfect backdrop to the many events hosted by Olde Town Grove City.
Many industrial companies have made Grove City their home. Wendell August Forge creates one of a kind metal gifts and memorabilia just outside of the borough. Multiple generations of Grove City residence have worked at the forge. General Electric has two factories in Grove City providing even more employment opportunities to residents. One of the oldest businesses in the borough is the George J. Howe Company, a coffee, candy, and nut company, creates and distributes high quality roasted coffee nationwide. The Grove City premium outlets brings thousands of shoppers into the area each year.
The business community is able to thrive due to an active Chamber of Commerce providing support and encouragement in the form of member events, like "Foodie Fest" which takes place in Grove City's beautiful Memorial Park. Parks, a pool, and YMCA support recreational enjoyment for people of all ages. Take a tour of Grove City on this episode of Exploring Pennsylvania Boroughs.
