Criminal Justice reforms have been the topic of bipartisan negotiations and press conferences, and there has been increased interest in releasing certain non-violent prisoners who have small marijuana convictions in their past that prevent them from finding jobs, volunteering or getting housing. Proposals being discussed include expungement of records for marijuana misdemeanors, and early release for non-violent offenders who are incarcerated at a cost of about $45,ooo a year to taxpayers. All parole dedisions are voted on by a 5-member Pardons Board. Brandon Flood, the Secretary of PA Pardons Board, will discuss the recent proposals.
