You are here: Home / Archive JRT / Journalists Roundtable: March 28, 2019

The House and Senate were in session this week, which started out with an opening prayer by freshman Rep. Stephanie Borowicz (R-Centre/Clinton) that went viral, as it occurred on the same day the House swore in its first Muslim member. The House was sued last year for not inviting nontheists to give the invocation to the floor session. Since August 2018, House members have been giving the opening prayer. Gov. Tom Wolf is expected to sign the first bill into law in 2019, legislation that would add to the list of felonies that would disqualify a public employee or elected official from receiving their pension. March 28 is the 40th anniversary of the accident at the Three Mile Island nuclear reactor in 1979. Also this week, the House debated a bill that would discontinue the welfare cash assistance program. This week’s guests are: Stephen Caruso, reporter with Pennsylvania Capital-Star; John Baer, columnist with the Philadelphia Daily News; and Tony Romeo, with KYW Newsradio 1060 in Philadelphia. Our host is Brian Lockman.
