Elam Zook considers himself a "noncompliant" Amish person. That means he left the Church, remains Amish, but chooses to live within the dominant culture. As Director of the Development of Amish Literature at the Amish Heritage Foundation, Mr. Zook maintains that no library in the world has a credible source of Amish information. He believes that the Amish are a dying society because they're "unable to process their own issues," and the modern world's failure to engage them and their problems is a form of genocide.
