The new season of PCN Profiles kicks off with Carol Stoudt, the founder of Stoudts Brewing Company in Adamstown, Pa. Commonly referred to as the first woman brewmaster since prohibition, Carol is a legend in the American craft brew scene. She got her start in the 1980's, after discovering a love of German style beers during her honeymoon. That discovery spurred her to come home and begin tinkering with brewing her own beer, after finding no American beer of similar quality. In the more than 30 years since Stoudts Brewing Co. opened it's doors, they have been showered with awards and praise. Carol has also been instrumental in helping grow the craft beer scene in the United States, lending advice and insights to anyone who comes to her for help.
Carol Stoudt announced her retirement from full-time brewing this spring, though her beers will continue to be served at the adjacent restaurant owned by her and her husband, Ed. We lift our glasses in praise of this legendary brewmaster. Cheers!
