Description

The borough of Carlisle has plenty of history, culture, and commerce to offer to their residents and visitors. Located a few miles west of Harrisburg, Carlisle is perfect for an afternoon trip, or long weekend getaway.

Borough residents enjoy many amenities, including water, sewerage, parks and recreation, and a well-established volunteer fire department. A bustling downtown offers a wide range of shops and restaurants, including the Market Cross Pub, an English-style pub that has been family owned and operated for 25 years. Farmers on the Square is a weekly farmers market that brings many local vendors to the Square. Step back in time with a visit to the Cumberland County Historical Society, which hosts permanent and rotating exhibits. Take in a show at the Historic Carlisle Theatre, offering live performances and films. Knowledge seekers will find many educational institutions in and around Carlisle. Penn State's Dickinson Law School, Dickinson College, and the Army War College are all nearby, offering high quality education to their students.

With a strong history behind them, Carlisle is looking to the future. Color Carlisle, a mural program is bringing beauty to buildings in their borough. A redevelopment project will bring new life into the borough. A public-private partnership is working to develop unused land into homes, shops, and restaurants.
