PCN Celebrates James J. Duratz’s 100th Birthday
CAMP HILL, PA – [5/11/2026] – PCN (Pennsylvania Cable Network) celebrates the 100th birthday of Jim Duratz on May 23. He is a cable television pioneer, World War II veteran, and founding father who played a key role in PCN’s development.
Following his service in the Philippines and in the post-war Allied occupation of Germany, Jim went on to a career with the Pennsylvania State Police before helping shape the early cable industry in Western Pennsylvania with the Barco family and Meadville Master Antenna. He played a hands-on role in building cable systems across the region and was instrumental in building PCN’s original signal distribution network when the organization was founded in 1979.
His leadership, dedication, and vision helped lay the foundation for PCN’s growth and long-term success. Today, PCN continues its mission of connecting Pennsylvanians through statewide public affairs programming, live coverage of government, history, and cultural events across the Commonwealth.
Beyond his professional achievements, Jim has been a generous supporter of organizations across Pennsylvania, including the University of Pittsburgh, Meadville Medical Center, the Gettysburg Visitors Center, and the Pennsylvania State Police Museum, among others.
“Jim led with determination and dedication, tirelessly working to build PCN in its early years and supporting the network’s growth for decades. Thank you for all you’ve done for PCN since our founding in 1979. Wishing you a very happy 100th birthday!” said Debra Kohr Sheppard, President & CEO of PCN.
