John Bogle, founder of the Vanguard Group of Investment Companies, died on January 16, 2019 at the age of 89 at his home in Bryn Mawr, PA. Mr. Bogle launched the Vanguard Group in 1974 in Malvern, PA, as a low-fee investment firm that tied mutual funds to stock market indexes, enabling millions of Americans to invest. The Philadelphia Inquirer noted, “Mr. Bogle was regarded by friends and foes alike as the conscience of the industry and the sheriff of Wall Street.” Mr. Bogle is survived by his wife, the former Eve Sherrerd, whom he married in 1956; six children, and 12 grandchildren.
