Pennsylvania General Assembly
We generally carry floor proceedings of the Pennsylvania Senate and House of Representatives on a live or same-day basis; always gavel to gavel. We also cover Senate and House committee hearings, news conferences and speeches in an effort to provide a comprehensive look at the legislative process.
The Executive Branch
We cover the governor’s public activities, including speeches, press conferences and bill signing ceremonies–all unedited and uninterrupted. We also televise meetings and other forums held by the state agencies such as the Departments of Agriculture, Education, Labor and Industry, and Transportation, all with the goal of fostering a better understanding of state government workings.
The Judicial Branch
We provide coverage of all three state appellate courts. In September of 2011, we televised the PA Supreme Court’s session for the first time. We also televise en banc sessions from the Superior and Commonwealth Courts.
Televised live on Mondays – Thursdays at 7PM, the hour-long interactive Call-In Program allows PCN viewers to speak directly with government officials, newsmakers and other knowledgeable parties on current Commonwealth issues.
Every week, “Journalists Roundtable,” takes a candid look at state issues, and forecasts trends and developing concerns. The show airs every Thursday at 8 PM and re-airs every Sunday at 5 PM.
Business and Industry
We provide coverage of business in the Commonwealth, including industry and trade association conferences and conventions, labor union conferences, business roundtables and luncheon speeches, award ceremonies and news conferences. We also showcase Pennsylvania industry through “PCN Tours,” which features visits to museums and manufacturing facilities in the Commonwealth.
The media itself plays an important role in the democratic process. With that in mind, we devote time to coverage of activities of Pennsylvania’s news and information providers, including television, radio, cable television, newspapers and computer services. “Journalists Roundtable,” our weekly news magazine show, features in-depth discussion with media panelists.
We often televise events sponsored by educational institutions throughout the state, such as conferences and speaker series. When selecting among these coverage opportunities, we give preference to events relating to state government, business, culture, history, and citizens.
Culture and History
We cover events that reflect the community, historical, and cultural aspects of the state, including tours of historic sites; lectures on aspects of the state’s history; high school and college music, academic, or sports competitions; and coverage of community and ethnic festivals.
