Education should be the number one priority in the state budget, and every child in the Commonwealth should deserve the best education, no matter what their situation may be. More money must be allocated for education, whether it be k-12 or higher.

One caller commented that he would like to see school consolidation in order to save some funding throughout the state.  I would suggest that this caller review some of the data on how growing large school systems has been a disaster in the past.  Warehousing students in buildings and systems where, by shear number, students loose identity and close contact with mentors is a formula for denying students their personal safety and/or scholarly advancement as they progress through their public education.   Ask – what is the real cost to our children of thinking that closing small schools in deference to creating a larger school systems might be “efficient use of state funding”?

    thank you,
