Gov. Tom Corbett’s budget proposal calls for an increase of $90 million to basic education funding.  An additional $1 billion block grant (over a four-year period) is dependent on the revenues from selling the state liquor stores.  Rep. Paul Clymer, Chair of the House Education Committee, and Rep. James Roebuck, Minority Chair, discussed these and other topics related to school funding within the proposed state budget.

I think it’s important to recognize the role that parents play in education.  Funding plays a role, but increased funding doesn’t equate to higher scholastic achievement.  Children of two parent homes perform better in school in general.  We should put more focus on the family and realize the role that family plays in educating their children.
