February 13: Corrections Call-In Program

In January, the PA Corrections Department announced plans to move inmates from two Western Pennsylvania facilities, to a newer facility in Centre County.  Corrections Secretary, John Wetzel, will join us to discuss this and other issues related to our Correctional system.

Dear Mr. Wetzel:  I did not catch
the entire discussions with respect to corrections program that I am/was
currently watching on TV PCN channel.  I served 90 days at Montgomery
County Correctional Facility as a result of a DUI.

Why could I not find information to write to someone about my experience at
MCCF or find any Standard Operating Procedures?  I may have a record, but
I am not that smart or stupid and I do care even if I am out and doing well.
Is it true that MCCF is a Contract Facility and because it may be a 3rd
party County Agreement Institution is MCCF exempt from providing certain
information to the public for free?  I’m confused. I could not FIND any
    information.

Also, after my release and in addition to my own research at PA web sites, the
Governor’s web site posted PA Expenses for Corrections and showed that
Corrections is the “Largest” amount of money being spent and the
largest population of State EMPLOYED people.  Perhaps, I misunderstood the
information.  Can you provide your opinion on my preceding statement relating
to fact?  I will leave my opinion on that issue to myself; however,
Governor Corbett indicated he would be making changes to Corrections.  I
am still a PA Taxpayer even if I was a participant/prisoner at MCCF.  What
are the statistics (or where is this type of information found?)
Information that shows the punishments and expenses have reduced DUI incidents
and costs associated to the punishment (not costs to the Offenders such as
myself, I am talking about the Costs associated to PA State Costs/Expenses
relating to employing all supporting Corrections Officers and Facilities
associated to “ALCOHOL” only DUI people going to jail or on house
arrest.  Perhaps there are no statistics available that segregate the
“Classifications of DUI and maybe I am not even referencing what I mean in
correct terminology”. I could not believe when I went for my first
proceeding how the Court Room was not even large enough to accommodate all the
Offenders in one sitting at one time.

Again I did not see the entire program
or hear all what was talked about (I heard you and a few others that is
all).  I apologize if this comment is not within the issues as I think
they are. I would appreciate you directing me to the right person with respect
to getting information that is offered FREE To a PAYING Taxpayer former MCCF
prisoner incarcerated for 90 days from a DUI.

what help can you provide for an inmate that has beee paroled but can not be released because of not being able to get a home plan because he is a sex offender. His family is not able to help and do not know what or who to turn to for assistance.
