I would like to know why the game commission stocks pheasant on private open lands but they do not tell anyone were they stock them. The birds are more a put and take animal since they are not doing good surviving in the wild.

With the disparity in deer numbers between public and private land, Wondering if there are any plans to identify whether a deer is harvested on  public vs private land.  I hunt in Maryland sometimes and frankly, (hard as it is to admit) they seem to have a better handle on deer management than PA does.   They have assigned id numbers to their WMA’s and State forest lands, and you are required to provide this ID when you report your harvest.  This gives them better data on the harvest patterns, and allows them to set seasons longer (or shorter) on public vs private land.  For instance: in the Western mountains, there is very limited time allotted to doe hunting on public lands, as they have recognized the public lands are getting more pressure, and deer populations are down (and need increased).  But on private lands where, like here in PA  , there are more deer, they allow more days and more liberal bag limits.  I’d like to see PA follow that model.

There seems to be alot of confusion within the game commission about the ins and outs of the Wildlife Violators Compact, specifically whether or not it is retroactive, meaning that if someone had their liscense suspended prior to PA join the compact, does it affect those people as well?

The unified sportsmen of PA. website is here (they generally believe deer are over-harvested, particularly on Public land (State Game lands, State forest lands)

    http://www.unifiedsportsmenpa.org/aboutus.htm

and here is a link to the latest harvet figures (from 2011-2012) hope this helps.

I would like to know why rifle hunting is only 200 yards of an occupied building or camp. If a bullet can travel a mile or more, why wouldn’t the distance from buildings be greater than 200 yards?

It would be nice if during the next call in show, the governor would call in and tell Roe, Dubrock and Rosenberry not to show up for work tomorrow….or ever again.
