January 23: Sen. Daylin Leach and Marijuana Legalization

Often discussion about legalization of marijuana relates to use of the drug for medical purposes.  But Senator Daylin Leach wants to take an extra step by legalizing so-called “recreational” marijuana.    He says we’ve spent billions nationally on prosecuting and incarcerating citizens who have hurt no one.  Governor Corbett says marijuana is a “gateway” drug, and if the bill gets to his desk, he’ll veto it.

I support Sen. Leach 100% on both marijuana legalization and Gerrymandering. The two go hand in hand. Prisons full of pot smokers pad the apportionment of districts with clusters of prisons.

Watching the YouTube video of the Senator was so inspiring I produced a simple web page with some of my ideas for supporting the marijuana legalization issue both in the state house and in the Congress.

very informed on this issue. Every person in pa needs to contact the governor and tell him that we are smart enough and responsible enough to handle this. We could show the country that PA has rational people and is a great place to live. A place with so much history shouldn’t be afraid to make it.

Polls have shown that over 50% of Pennsylvanian’s are for medical marijuana and close to the 50% mark are for total legalization. It’s the politician’s playing games, not the residents of Pa. Change will come soon enough.

  • Jdb7210

Excellent and well informed. Gov.Corbett is a silly old man that needs to step up or step out. What kind of a man would veto a bill that could help ease the suffering of sick people, stop ridiculous arrests, and help to rebuild Pa’s economy? Oh yeah, a politician with an agenda and $$$ from anti marijuana lobbyists.

The money and jobs we could make with just hemp, it would be overwhelming. It would boost this economy with all of its practical uses. As rich as our farming is here, its absurd that its still illegal. Put the hemp back in hempfield. We need to get this old head out of the office and put someone in with some common sense

    Well said Senator!

Could someone let Mr. Corbett know that it has been proven time and again that Cigarettes and Alcohol are the “Gateway Drugs” that people use before ever attempting to use Cannabis.

Thats the problem is these old bucks in congress still trying to hold on to old ways…i think after the counter culture kids have all grown up we see its all not that bad. The governor needs to step down if he cant accept change in pa and let alone the rest of the country.

Tom Corbett is an idiot. Although I no longer smoke marijuana. I would hardly consider it a gateway drug. Actually, it’s not a drug at all. It is an herb. Alchohol oon the other hand IS a gateway drug. When under the influence of alchohol, people are more likely to try anything. Also, how can the sale of Valarian Root be legal, and marijuana not? What differs one plant used for sedative purposes from another? When I did partake in this recreational use, it only had 3 side effects. Happy, hungry, and sleepy. No lasting side effects or permanent damage such as liver damage, withdrawal, shakes, aches, or pain. Corbett is a NOODLE!

  • Deislipknot

im sure corbett supports drug cartels as well

  • Ozzie3183

Just remember Corbett is up for re election. If he veto it. Veto him out of office! Pa needs all the finacial help it can get and this is one way to do it. Its better than gas drilling which is harming the land, animals and humans. But he won’t legalize marijuana??

Andrew Morral, associate director of RAND’s Public Safety and Justice unit and lead author of the mathematical model simulating adolescent drug use stated:

“We’ve shown that the marijuana gateway effect is not the best explanation for the link between marijuana use and the use of harder drugs … An alternative, simpler and more compelling explanation accounts for the pattern of drug use you see in this country, without resort to any gateway effects. While the gateway theory has enjoyed popular acceptance, scientists have always had their doubts. Our study shows that these doubts are justified.”
Someone in PA, please enlighten your governor that the “gateway drug theory” is just a theory that has never been proven and never will be proven, because it’s simply a scapegoat for people who don’t want to take responsibility for their actions, and has been manipulated into more propaganda in an effort to demonize a harmless plant.

Its not even a theory. More like a wives tale or an urban myth.

  • commonsenseguy234524235

Brilliant! This guy is obviously very well informed. Hope his bill gets a lot of attention and passes! Then we need to get this passed in Maryland! Thank you!

  • Afnuke

That’s easy,   get him out of office then.   He must be financially reinforced somewhere up high by the people that are killing our country.  Simple:   get out of office

The gateway to access by kids to drugs is the prohibition by people like Corbett against regulation, licensing and taxation that would put responsible adult supervision in between kids and pot sales in Pennsylvania.

The choice for lawmakers is simple: Which better protects children from drug sales:

    A) Addicts, gangsters and childhood peers passing around drugs on street corners. The Drug War status quo.

    B) Regulated, licensed and taxed responsible adult supervised sales and distribution. Legalization.

Senator Leach will have to educate Governor Corbett about Marijuana not being a gateway drug. Some people just don’t want to accept the fact that Marijuana isn’t as dangerous as the government wants us to believe.

  • Heryarnrat

Maybe if he would stop coughing like he’s presently high, people would take him more seriously.

  • michael edward terwilliger

There is so many lies towards the use of marijuana. it not a gateway drug.. its the past 80 years of corrupt government propaganda.. this probation must end!!!

Good job. Keep up the work . WE NEED to get Tom Corbett to change his mind or outa office.

Getting drunk on alcohol to the point you pass out is more of a gateway than smoking a joint and eating a bag of chips. Plus CHILDREN WONT BE ALLOWED TO BUY IT CAUSE ID WILL BE REQUIRED. So, is it a gateway for children or for adults?

  • http://www.facebook.com/JohnStahlIV John Stahl IV

People want marijuana to be dangerous cause DEA will lose jobs, Police will lose jobs, Pharmaceuticals will lose jobs, Cotton ( cause of hemp) and Paper will lose jobs. Instead all these people should use the benefits of the medicative plant and the fiber from hemp to help all of us.

It’s about time the prohibition against marijuana was dropped, to many young adults who have hurt no one have lost their future due to these laws. These poeple have not hurt anyone and yet their future is tarnished because of it, usually these poeple that participate in smoking marijuana constantly don’t drink as much as non-marijuana smokers. Which, as we all know, drinking is worse physically for the individual and worse for the families of the individual.

who does our gov. think he is to threaten a veto if this bill passes…no one man should have the power to deny what the majority wants … we need to let these closed minded, outdated life-long politicians know that the information they base their decisions on is as outdated as they are …its ridiculous
